Ship Descriptions

We've got several ships scheduled to be at the Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival this year including The Denis Sullivan and Madeline.   See individual descriptions and specifications below!

Denis Sullivan

Madeline

Wisconsin's very own Denis Sullivan will be sailing up from their homeport in Milwaukee to participate in the Maritime Heritage Festival. Denis Sullivan is committed to investing in the value of the Great Lakes by establishing historical, cultural and environment bonds between the community and the Great Lakes. Owned and operated by Discovery World, this Great Lakes schooner focuses on education by serving as a floating classroom as well as providing educational day sails. Experience the Denis Sullivan at the festival by deck touring or going out on a day sail. Or hop onboard with the crew as the ship sails up to Port Washington for the festival on Thursday or returns to the homeport in Milwaukee on Monday.

Madeline was built in 1990 as a reconstruction of a mid-19th-century schooner and now sails on all five of the Great Lakes with a volunteer crew. The ship was built and is now operated by the Maritime Heritage Alliance to preserve, interpret, and share the maritime heritage of the Great Lakes. Madeline is designated as Traverse Citys goodwill ambassador. Crewmembers are educated to share historical knowledge, marlinespike skills and information on wooden boat building.
